The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East has distanced itself from reports alleging that party leaders in the zone have endorsed candidates for the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as misleading and without basis.
In a public disclaimer issued on Tuesday, the APC Zonal Chairman for Kogi East, Hon. Abdul Ogwu Alhassan, said the reports currently circulating in some quarters do not reflect the position of the party or its leadership.
Alhassan, who spoke on behalf of APC members in Kogi East, urged party faithful and the general public to disregard statements purportedly made at a recent gathering, insisting that no form of endorsement took place.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the gathering in question was strictly an Easter celebration,” he clarified, adding that the event, hosted by Dr. Ameh Erico, was intended to bring together APC stakeholders and members of FAWWASS in the spirit of the season, not for political declarations.
According to him, the APC in Kogi State operates within laid-down structures and due process, stressing that no individual has been endorsed for any elective position ahead of the 2027 polls.
He further noted that key leaders of the party, including former Governor Yahaya Bello and the incumbent Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside other stakeholders in Kogi East, have not issued any directive supporting any aspirant.
“The party’s leadership has not endorsed any individual for any elective position. Aspirants are advised to continue their consultations within the framework of the party’s constitution and guidelines,” Alhassan said.
He warned against the spread of misinformation, particularly on social media, noting that videos and statements suggesting otherwise should be treated with caution.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to unity and internal democracy, the zonal chairman maintained that the APC would continue to uphold transparency and due process in its political activities as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
