Kogi Government has awarded the contract for the construction of an international airport, a move stakeholders have described as a major milestone in the state’s drive toward economic transformation and improved connectivity.
The project, which is being championed by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, is expected to position Kogi as a strategic hub for commerce, investment, and transportation in the North-Central region.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Ojoma Happiness, Women Leader of the Igala Progressive Youth Forum, Ganaja, commended the governor for what she termed a “bold and visionary step” toward infrastructural advancement.
She noted that the airport project would open up the state to both local and international investors, while also creating employment opportunities for youths and boosting trade activities.
“This is indeed a historic moment for Kogi State. The awarding of the contract for the International Airport project is a clear indicator to the governor’s commitment to transforming the state into a hub of economic activities,” she said.
Hon. Happiness added that the initiative would not only enhance connectivity but also place Kogi on the global map, making it more accessible for business and tourism.
According to her, the ripple effects of the project would be felt across various sectors, including commerce, logistics, and hospitality, thereby improving the overall standard of living for residents.
She further expressed optimism that the project would be executed to standard and within schedule, urging citizens to support the administration in its developmental strides.
Observers say the airport project is part of the broader infrastructure agenda of the Ododo-led administration aimed at modernising the state and unlocking its economic potential.
With the contract now awarded, attention is expected to shift to the implementation phase, as Kogites look forward to the timely delivery of what many have described as a legacy project.
